I understand TomTom's themselves are Linux based. Myself, I run Ubuntu Linux Version 8.04 Hardy Heron. With the dissatisfaction of Vista, XP becoming obsolete, and the price of either of them being inhibitive(and ridiculous) Linux is gaining popularity as a mainstream operating system. Ubuntu Linux especially since it is free, and has excellent support via web based forums. If you need any help or advice please feel free to contact me, or the thousands of programmers at Once again, would you please consider creating a Linux distribution of TomTom home. The only thing I can think of is to send this or your own version to Tomtom. I'm going to start a new thread titled Tomtom petition. Run this command and then plug the TomTom device in: That has this same letter, with a link to Tomtom.Ĭan you capture some information for me, it might help figure things out so TomTom Home can detect the device. Sudo udevmonitor -environment | tee tomtom.logĪnd attach the resulting "" to a message here. I installed the current latest TomTom Home 2 () (v23.1.92). The installer throws a couple of error-dialogs about missing C runtime libraries but just pressed the Okay button and carried on it completes the install. Wine "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\TomTomHOME.exe" I ran TomTom Home from Wine (v1.1.2) and it starts fine. There appears to be an issue with connecting to the TomTom manual site ("Read the manual for my device"). It tries to open the link but wine's iexplore locks-up without a window. Checking the running tasks it looks like the remote procedure call service is getting stuck. There's another issue at exit which also causes it to remain in memory and requires killing. I made the logs (attached to this post) as you suggested but I do not know what to make of them. On the other hand I can report that TomTom Home installs and runs ok, both under Wine and Virtualbox. However, the virtualbox version is unable to connect to the TomTom device so far. I assume there is something wrong with USB. It seem there is a special module for virtualbox that I do not have. The Wine version can see the device ok - but I was reluctant to enter any updates to it becuase my TomTom Home CD is v1.6 which dates from and it certainly seems out of date expecially since my device 720T is not listed (the closest one seems to be the 715). Surprising since this is the one it came with.Īt first I was unable to download any update for Tom Tom Home from their website. however i discovered that although the link did not appear in either Opera or Firefox for linux (even when set to identify as Internet Explorer), it does appear for both browsers when on Windows #Tomtom home site download# So I had to use windows to get link to the specific url, rather than the select windows, apple etc - and then I could enter it directly into opera for linux. However although I sucessfully installed the new TomTom Home software under Wine it did not recognise the deviceīTW I am running Kubuntu 8.10 and everything is default. I am around and just re-found this thread. I havn't been in for a while due to not using my car much recently but my wife has been on at me to update the device and I myself am sick of poor performance from the bluetooth hands free due to too low volume - so back into harness or at least investigation mode again.
